A TRAINEE solicitor spent the night behind bars in her pyjamas after being arrested in connection with a suspected drunken late night car crash.
Sarah Rennie, 27, appeared at Perth Sheriff Court yesterday to face a charge of driving while she was more than double the legal alcohol limit.
Rennie was wearing pyjamas when she was arrested at the scene of a single vehicle crash on the remote A827 Logierait to Grandtully road in Perthshire.
She was arrested late on Thursday, September 2, and detained in custody because of the level of the reading she allegedly gave during an intoximeter test.
Tayside Police have a policy of keeping all drivers in custody overnight if they provide a positive breath test of twice the legal limit (70/35 mics) or more.
Rennie faced a charge of driving with a breath alcohol reading of 79 mics, and her solicitor had the case continued.
Solicitor David Holmes, defending, said he wanted to make “further investigation” into the incident and the case was continued without plea.
The fiscal depute successfully asked for her to be placed on bail because of the level of the alcohol allegedly involved.
Rennie, of Stell Park Road, Dunkeld, Perthshire, spent several hours in police cells wearing only her nightclothes until her mother arrived with new clothes.
She was allowed to change before appearing in open court and was wearing a black suit by the time she was led into the dock. However, she still had flip flops on her feet. She spoke only to confirm her name.
